Funny how the many scary things that happen to Prue ccronicas Curtis never stick to them. A sort of “aura or shine” makes it possible to visually identify which of these things a person is. In a question and answer session with Meloy and Ellis, a young reader suggested the Ghost Bridge could be interpreted as an apparition of a bridge that once existed in the past, implying that Wildwood takes place in our world’s future. The notion of grinding through the next pages was too discouraging, and I found it unlikely that the book would suddenly improve, unless it was perhaps taken up by a different author midway through.

Prue transports baby Mac in the little red wagon hitched to her bicycle, and the infant is carried off by crows. I have absolutely nothing against hipsters or vegetarians, but the snobbery in this particular book bugs me. Their small community isn’t very thriving, especially with the economy being down.

I’ll listen to every Decemberist album that rolls out and fawn over Carson Ellis’s lovely drawings, but read another book in this series? This theme is absent in Wildwood. You might notice that not very much happened or is learned in the pages that I read, that that much plot might be managed in just 50 pages. I liked how determined, resourceful and kind character Prue became. I’m quite tempted to order the expensive, autographed edition with color plates Maybe it was because the cover looks amazing – as does the illustrations inside the book.

Feels a bit chaotic, but I actually wilfwood the chaos! And that’s admirable and beautiful, but I tried to quit this book a hundred times, until I realized I had already read so many pages that I might as well see it through.

I truly enjoyed Prue and Curtis’s journey through the Impassable Wilderness, and with an abundance of characters, I found it remarkable to have been able to create so many excitingly different personas within the wilderness.
