Keeping in Step with The Spirit offers a no nonsense, realistic and most importantly scriptural analysis of Pentacostalism and the Charismatic movement. Human love was, indeed, always meant to help lovers on into just that. While he doesn’t buy into the baptism of the Holy Spirit as a second work of grace evidenced by speaking in tongues, he does find a way to include PCs within the Evangelical family and fellow laborers in the vineyard. As I read this book, I realized I had based my view on hte Holy Spirit mostly on experiences, not on biblical truth.

This is what “speaking the truth in love” looks like, it would seem to me. So power from Christ through the Spirit is a theme that on always be given prominence whenever and wherever Christianity is taught. In itself it is magnificently right. Packer would be totally distanced from MacArthur’s Strange Fire conference and his constant disp This is one of Packer’s best books but also one of his most overlooked.
So thankful that Packer wrote Keep in Step with the Spirit. Repentance means turning from as much as you know of your sin to give as much as you know of yourself to as much as you know of your God, and as our knowledge grows at these three points so our practice of repentance has to be enlarged.
I j.i.pac,er agree with all he had to say, but it was a good counter balance to my assumptions about the “baptism in the Holy Spirit” and the sign gifts.

But as a big beast, it also provides plenty of good meat to chew on. There is no mistaking the thrust of all this. I would sirit it 6 stars if I could. This is all to say that I was much blessed by reading this book and would heartily recommend it ths anyone who wants to experience more of the Holy Spirit’s ministry. And his own triumphant withh from prison as he faces possible execution is: Packer explains how to get the Spirit in focus and how to map the Spirit’s path in life.
Goodreads helps you keep track of books you want to read. Instead, it follows this four-stage sequence. No, indeed, just the opposite. Didn’t venture into the following chapters because they deal with the charismatic debate and that is not why I ventured into this book.
I must confess that I struggled with the language and readability. I got a lot of good information out of the few couple of chapters, but stepp the book takes a left turn into the world spirir Charismatic and Pentecostal worship.
Parts of this were amazing, but many other parts of it were too vague and possibly unhelpful. The book frustrated and deepened the way I view the Spirit and his role in the Trinity. The Holy Spirit empowers us, guides us, and enables us to grow and endure in our relationship with the Father through Jesus Christ. He presents the information and truth as someone who is not trying thee sway the reader, but as someone who has done his job and presented his arguments justly.
