I actually thought the hero was quite a bastard, and treated the heroine appallingly. So What busbfe Earth is this nonsense? She did fall in love with him, but quite honestly I’m not sure why. And Jason was just mean and cruel, treating her like a busbse and keeping her prisoner.

If there was ever a fictional couple who needed to resolve their difference and learn to TALK to each other instead of jumping to conclusions or hiding things for the sake of pride it is these two. What an insufferable, despicable, hateful character!!

I cried after reading this book. She weaves intricate, historically accurate and absorbing stories that you do not want to put down. I was pretty young when I read gypy book like I’m writing this review simply because I hadn’t done one, and it is a memorable book, but for not nice reasons.

Or maybe I was just curious, because there are a fair number of these types of books out there, whether there was something appealing that I missed because I threw it down too soon. He pretty much remains a bastard ladt most of the book; and Catherine never does seem to successfully defy him, but of course, in the end they come together. I read it multiple times before I fully shirlfe different parts.

Louisiana 1 – 10 of 11 books. The problem isnt as much the violation and beating itself, which given the times may have been historically accurate, its the fact that his transformation into love does not include remorse or promise to never do it again – on the contrary, he explains it away blithely as part of his volatile character and if she doesnt continu The hero starts out sexy, forceful, good looking and highly sexed and deteriorates into a revengeful philandering rapist and woman batterer who blames her for everything.

I notice a few years ago I gave it four stars, but I’m kind of not sure I should have as the hero raped the heroine, and it This was Busbee’s first book, and I read it after Lady Vixen, which is in my mind as a sort of special book because it was my first adult book, first bodice ripper. I got first in class that year, and being in the best class Years later when the children are nearly grown they are thrown back into the lives that were stolen fro Loved this one!

If you don’t like bodicerippers don’t read it and complain. Open Preview See a Problem? And I’m very sorry I didn’t!

There is also lots of Louisiana history which was brought to life vividly Their silences and misunderstandings caused soo much to happen to them even leading to the Heroine’s capture and rape.

Nov 24, BookClinger rated it did not like it. Jul 30, Tara rated it did not like it Shelves: So this story would have either not happened, or Jason would have sadly ignored his attraction to Tamara, and may or may not have courted Catherine with complete respect, restraining his passion until he had the right to share it with her. This book is a classic.

But try as I had to find something to save Jason from my lowliest regard, there was nothing!! I could actually name a few, and I appreciate them, but it is a cliche I am resigned to. It is turning one of these times that our hero sees her for the first time, thinking her just a simple but beautiful gypsy wench, he also decides that he will have her. I could see him not believing her but not tell him?

I have absolutely loved other Busbee books, but this wasn’t one of them. When it is revealed that the little gypsy wench that he has made his mistress against her will is actually a Ladyhe has no other recourse than lxdy marry her and take her home to America. Everyone is stupid, including myself for wasting my time with this novel. AND Stockholm syndrome indeed on Catherine’s part. Now, they live in hills of Laddy, where they raise for pleasure Standard Schnauzers, Standardbred horses, and other many animals.

Gypsy Lady Louisiana 1 by Shirlee Busbee. Dear adults, please take care of this novel if you have it. Still she does not tell him who she is.

While the heroes from the other two novels were coldblooded arrogant males,Jason is the most coldest i have read about. Ladg are times he is sweet but honestly I cannot relate how his denial to love Catherine evolves into a form of verbal abuse. Lists with This Book.

I still enjoyed the story though, and the setting which took place during the sale and purchase of Louisiana.
